We’ve put together a list of things to keep you busy, productive and sane through the national lockdown. This is the ideal time and opportunity to try something new, hit the pause button, reflect and refocus. Let’s do this!
Stick to a routine
Whether you’re working from home or not, do not let your usual routine slip, or you might find yourself falling into a 21-day lazy couch blur. Firstly, keep your normal weekday morning alarm. You might not need to contend with peak hour traffic at the moment, but if you get used to waking up later, it will be difficult to get back into the swing of things once we all return to our usual daily grind. Rather use that extra time for something productive, we’ve got some ideas below. Secondly, get ready for your day as you usually would – get up, make your bed, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast and brush your teeth. This will prepare you to tackle the day ahead and avoid lounging around in your PJs until 11am (leave that for the weekend). Lastly, create a daily schedule. This makes you to really think about how you spend your time and what tasks you can tackle each day. Remember to schedule in breaks and even tidy-up time.
Exercise your mind & body
Home workouts are officially the latest craze, with fitness routines and time-lapse videos taking over our social feeds. Regular exercise is great for keeping our bodies moving while restricted to our homes, maintaining (or gaining) fitness levels and keeping our minds focused. Bonus, it’s great for keeping off the extra ‘snacking’ weight (be honest, we’re all doing it), as well as, helping to shift our focus from our home-office, the couch or bed. A change of scenery does wonders. Besides doing a strength or cardio workout, try something new like mindful breathing, meditation, yoga or pilates. There are loads of home-workouts out there to download, live social streaming videos to join (have friends and family join in too) and apps to help you through the process. Our minds are destined to go a bit numb after seeing the same four walls for 21 days, so tap into that right-brain creativity. Even if you’re not the most artistic, you could try painting, colouring in for adults, baking or practice beauty and styling looks. If you don’t have the correct stationery, try some sketching or doodling with a pencil or pen. Other things that stimulate your right brain include dancing and singing – and no one else is watching or listening, so go for it Beyoncé! Try creating cool video content on Tik Tok or Instagram by jumping on to some of the cool challenges out there.

Learn something new
It’s the perfect time to upskill yourself, by learning a new language, skill or instrument – YouTube is your best friend here. There are also an abundance of online workshops and course, for everything from photography for beginners, to Developing a Business Strategy.
You can also stretch your right brain with reading, writing, playing Sudoku or building a puzzle. Play games with the ones you’re isolated with, including card/board games, like Uno, Monopoly and chess.
It’s important to remain social during this time. We can’t physically meet up with friends and family, but we can get creative. Host a dinner party with friends and use one of the many apps out there to video call each other and catch up. Predefine a recipe that you all cook at the same time, compare your plating skills and eat together. You can use the Houseparty app to, not only host dinner parties, but use their built-in games to host a games nights. Arrange a post-work drinks ‘meet-up’ in your garden, with colleagues via video call or even your partner/housemates who also work from your home – they’re technically your new home-office buddies anyway. Take the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make time for more people in your life. Be creative and make the best of the situation.
Netflix couch chilling
Who knew that Netflix would become the lockdown lifesaver? True story! There’s no harm in blocking out some much-needed TV time on the couch, to binge-watch Netflix series.
